March 21st, 2020 brings sobering news to the US amidst its fight against the spread of COVID-19.
With over 6,000 new cases reported through the United States since last night alone, the nation’s current total now stands at 25,896 as of 8pm ET.
These totals propel the US to a Coronavirus case count that now exceeds Spain, Iran, and Germany – all recently considered global hotbeds. Just this morning, the United States trailed all three of these nations in total confirmed cases.

The US now only trails China and Italy in total cases. Given the exponential growth underway throughout the states and China’s success in mitigating the spread of the virus (China just reported zero COVID-19 infections for the third day), it seems highly likely that the United States may lead the global count in COVID-19 cases within a week.
Further adding to the challenges in the United States is the lack of a federal order requiring its residents to stay at home. With domestic airports operational and its citizens allowed to freely travel, the decision to leave policies to the discretion of individual states is likely to further complicate the nation’s ability to contain and stop the spread of the virus.
