COVID-19: U.S. Deaths Exceed Six Wars Combined

As of Monday, the United States is reporting more deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic than in six wars combined. At 10,335 deaths, more Americans have died than in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Indian Wars and Desert Storm.

The data, culled from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, states that a total of 9,961 soldiers died as a result of those wars combined. The contrast between these two death tolls comes after U.S. officials previously likened the response to the coronavirus outbreak to a military struggle.

Nationwide, there are 356,583 cases in America, and studies indicate that the U.S. has the greatest rate of infection among countries. Turkey, Brazil, France and the United Kingdom make up the top five, including the U.S., countries with the fastest COVID-19 spread.

New York is the state with by far the greatest number of both active cases and deaths; 130,689 are currently infected and 4,758 have died from the disease.

Globally, there are 1,330,461 people known to be infected and there have been 73,842 deaths due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. has the third-highest number of deaths, behind Italy and Spain, who report 16,523 and 13,169 deaths respectively.
