The numbers are rapidly accumulating as COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the United States.
Today, March 24, 2020, the count currently stands at 50,982 cases in the United States as of 3pm ET.
There have also been 102 new deaths since the beginning of the day, a concerning total given the fact that we’re only midway through the afternoon in most of the country.
At even just 102 deaths per day over the course of a year, 37,230 deaths would be more than the number of motor vehicle fatalities in the United States, which was 36,560 in 2019.
The trouble here is that the daily rate is increasing exponentially.

A virus doesn’t grow linearly forever. It accelerates, plateaus, and then declines. The CDC’s “bend the curve” or “flatten the curve” reflects this natural reality.
As COVID-19 spreads and declines (which it will decline despite what the media tells you), every country will follow a similar pattern. The US will peak around the second week of April.
