Anthony Fauci Warns US Could See 200,000 Coronavirus Deaths

Anthony Fauci, Director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), told CNN’s Jake Tapper Sunday morning that the United States could see 100,000-200,000 deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of 3/29/20 at 11:15am ET, the United States has currently seen 124,356 cases and 2,236 deaths, meaning that the eventual total per Fauci’s projections could be about 50-90 times higher than we’ve seen to-date. This would also mean “millions of cases”, per Dr. Fauci.

While President Trump has expressed a desire to reopen parts of the country less affected by the outbreak, Fauci expressed skepticism, stating that he would only support such a rollback if there was widespread availability of testing – which he currently referred to as “a little iffy”.

Fauci has served as Director of the NIAID since 1984, and has served as a key member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force.
